About Alfred
I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts and attended both private and public schools graduating in 1975. I started working when I was 7 years old delivering newspapers and got my first part time job when I was 15 years old. I used my savings for travel and mostly paid my own way through college. Graduating in 1980 was similar to today in that it was tough to find a job but I learned that nobody owed me a job, I had to earn it. It was a career change that brought me to teaching in my thirties. The choice to change careers was the best decision of my life.

My mission is to offer a service that enriches a student’s experience with wisdom and understanding.
I believe that learning protects us from becoming slaves to our electronics, and from those who try to take advantage of us. It also helps us feel more comfortable in our world and in ourselves. Also, I believe that we need to instill or encourage our young ones to have grit which is a very valuable trait to have when we compete in the marketplace of employment.
We should foster an open-mind, especially in regard to change as it is the only thing sure in life.
Finally, I believe that a well-rounded person and a good citizen is grounded in Geography, History, and in the classics of Art and Literature as well as being a good reader, strong in math, and skilled at writing.

If I had to travel I would need to charge a higher rate as that arrangement is much more labor intensive.
I do not generally charge for cancellations if the student is reasonable in terms of frequency and advance notice.
