About Pingnan

I’m Dr. Ping, a Ph.D. engineer and experienced math teacher who has been teaching high school math since 2011, both in person and online. I attended college in China and earned both my master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Canada. I then worked in the United States for 16 years in the high-tech industry, where I used mathematics and analytical problem-solving every day and earned 15 U.S. patents.

I began teaching math in 2011 after becoming concerned about the quality of math education my own two children were receiving. That experience motivated me to help students develop a stronger understanding of mathematics and greater confidence in their abilities. In 2018, I began tutoring because one-on-one instruction gave me an even better environment to address each student’s individual needs.

I bring patience, clarity, and real-world experience to every lesson. Many of my students see me as a grandfatherly figure—patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in their success. I take the time to explain difficult concepts clearly and help students build a solid foundation.

My goal is to help students strengthen their math skills, build confidence, and become independent learners. I strive to create a supportive and professional environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving step by step.

About the lesson

My name is Dr. Ping, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s level, needs, and learning style. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind the math instead of simply memorizing formulas.

A typical lesson includes reviewing key concepts, working through examples, practicing problems, and building strategies the student can use independently. I also help with homework, test preparation, and learning gaps when needed.

I hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, worked 16 years in the high-tech industry, and have been teaching high school math since 2011, both in person and online. My lessons are mainly for middle and high school students who want to catch up, keep up, or move ahead with confidence.
