About Ruth
I have been a teacher for thirty year and more. In the beginning of my teaching career I taught traditionally which was orally and helping students along the way. Then I caught on to something that changed my teaching. I started teaching reading through singing songs. If you like to sing like I do this is the class for you. I would teach words by singing the words and children answering my questions about the songs they had sung. I started seeing reading scores going up in the beginning and I didn't realize the impact music was having on my students. That's why I decided to to back to college to get my Master's Degree in Reading Education with the emphasis on music. I learned when you are taught orally we only use half of our brain but when we sing what we are learning we are using our whole brain to learn. This was so awesome to learn for me. One of my students I worked with during my college years had a great story I would like to share with you. I am going to call him Yoo. Yoo came to me on a Preschool level for reading. I worked with him during his First Grade year. During that year Yoo moved up to Second Grade level by the end of the year. This is unheard of because that is 16 levels for this kind of movement. I was so amazed. Yoo loved to sing and he would always smile in my class. What a joy to have Yoo in my life.

My Reading lessons are for anyone that struggles to read. I have been an Elementary Teacher for 30+ years. For many years I taught the traditional way that teachers have always done for years but then I came upon this great idea of using music to help students to read. I received my Masters Degree in Reading Education but studied how music can help us to learn to read. If you like singing you will enjoy this class. I enjoy singing. I also play the guitar so that puts it over the top. I may add Karaoke too, which is fun too. We sing songs you may know and sometimes I change the words to make it fun.
