About Madeleine

Hi, I'm Madeleine! I'm currently in college running cross-country and track and have an interest in research in neuroscience and bioinformatics. I understand firsthand what it takes to manage a busy schedule while still doing well academically. That experience is part of why I care so much about helping other students build strong study habits, not just get through material.
I've been tutoring for 3 years, largely through a national nonprofit that connects students from underserved communities with free academic support, which has shaped how much I value patience and making math feel approachable rather than intimidating. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running, spending time with my sister and friends, and exploring New York City.
I try to bring the same discipline I use in athletics and research into how I teach: staying organized, showing up prepared, and genuinely caring about each student's progress.

About the lesson

I believe math becomes much easier once a student feels confident and not scared to try. My approach centers on patience, clear step-by-step explanations, and adapting to how each student learns best. That could mean visual examples, breaking a concept into smaller pieces, or simply slowing down until something clicks.
I usually start by reviewing any material the student is currently working on or struggling with, then walk through the underlying concept before moving into practice problems together. I like to have students explain their reasoning out loud as we go, since this helps identify exactly where a misunderstanding is coming from. Lessons usually end with a quick recap of what we covered and a discussion of any upcoming deadlines etc.
I've spent the last 3 years tutoring students through a national nonprofit, focusing especially on geometry, trigonometry, and exam prep. Beyond tutoring, I bring a strong personal foundation in math and science through ongoing coursework and research experience, which helps me connect classroom concepts to real, practical applications. I'm also a varsity athlete, which has taught me discipline and time management which I try to pass on to students.
My lessons are best suited for middle and high school students working on algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, as well as students preparing for standardized tests, including specialized exam prep and ACT/college prep. I especially enjoy working with students who need extra confidence alongside academic support.
