About Belinda
I decided to become a psychologist while at high school and I feel very fortunate that being drawn to this area of work has been a constant source of inspiration and curiosity. In my career, I have worked across the NGO, educational, department of health and private practice modalities and am now solely in private practice. The joy of psychology is that the more you know, the more you want to know and this has led me to be a bit of an eternal student. I have a Masters in Sport Psychology and Clinical Psychology and I am currently studying psychodynamic therapy with children, young people and families. I am across all the current evidence-based interventions including EMDR and have a lot of experience in complex case formulation and psychological intervention. I have taught at a university level and have completed a Certificate IV in training and assessment so I also have experience in mapping a course plan and assessment rubric into a vibrant and interesting learning experience. I look forward to joining you on your journey of learning and hope I can bring what has inspired me into my tutoring sessions.

Psychological theory makes a lot of sense in hindsight, when you're already an experienced clinician. This is when the authentic a-ha moment arrives, suddenly Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Piaget's cognitive development or Melanie Klein's positions click and make sense. Unfortunately your assignment can't wait for this moment and you need to understand it sufficiently in advance of this!
Luckily you also bring your humanity to your studies, and this is a great advantage to try to tap into complex theory and analysis. While study is not therapy and does not delve into personal material, as students we try and make sense of what we're learning in relation to ourselves, and what we know, what we've experienced.
As a clinical psychologist who has taught at university and served on an ethics committee, in my work with students I aim to make the sometimes dry theoretical work into something more human, more real, where it makes sense more intuitively. I adapt my skills depending on the level of study and the area of need, from IB psychology to Masters level.
Prior to a tutoring session, students will send through information about their subject and their current difficulties or questions. While the IB course and APAC guidelines are prescriptive, every school and university approaches material slightly differently and I will aim to align myself with the specific requirements of each institution and assessment.
Beginning a session we will review your learning goals and work to achieve them.
I have a special interest and additional experience in understanding the ethical considerations required in postgraduate psychology research and the completion of a HREA and ethics application to an institutional board of ethics.
Areas of clinical speciality include:
Educational & ADHD assessment: administering, scoring and interpreting the WISC V-WIAT III, behavioural assessments and integrating results with clinical interview for report writing.
Complex Case formulation and intervention planning: Integrating presenting issues with case history including developmental issues, mental health, chronic health issues, neurodiversity, family and other systems, and trauma.
Evidence based psychological interventions. (CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Play Therapy, EMDR, Schema Therapy)
Tutoring sessions are between 60-90 minutes
