About Brooke
As someone who struggled with writing in the past, I understand how frustrating it can be. Because of this, I take great care to ensure my tutees leave every session feeling better about their writing. I believe that everyone has the ability to be a great writer.
Much of what I was taught about academic writing in high school made me loose confidence in my ability to write. I believed I was a bad writer, mostly because being grammatically flawless was of greatest concern, and from what I’ve encountered with tutees, still is.
Instead of pushing the idea that your ability to write depends on your
grasp on grammar conventions, I aim to help students understand how their rhetoric, sentence structure, tone, etc., can influence the effectiveness of their writing. The ability to think critically about your thoughts and arguments is key to being successful in writing.
