About Isobel
I recently completed my BA in English at the University of Bristol and am expecting to graduate with a high 1:1 by the end of July. Several of my final year essays have been published in undergraduate academic journals. I studied English Lit/Lang at GCSE and A Level and my essays/mock exam papers were regularly used as models for the rest of the cohort. During my final year of school I led a creative writing group for Year 7 and 8 students.

I like to find out the specific targets/concerns of the student before planning a tutoring session so that I can tailor the content to the individual. If seeking assistance for an upcoming exam/coursework I may ask the student to complete a past paper prior to the session so that I am able to identify key areas for improvement. I am passionate about English Literature and enjoy discussing books/poems/literary themes with anyone and everyone, so I like to find out a student’s personal opinions on what they’re studying. Even if these opinions are negative I believe any kind of engagement with a text is useful, and I use these friendlier, less formal discussions to build up to the lesson. I am studying to receive my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate so I am able to explain the fundamental concepts of English language (spelling, grammar, syntax etc.)
