About Sharvari

My name is Sharvari, I'm 19 years old and have just finished my A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, achieving A*, A, A* respectively. I have got almost 6 months experience working at Explore Learning, teaching Years 4-7 and experience as a volunteer tutor GCSE biology, maths and Chemistry to a local charity (Anstee Bridge). Having worked with a diverse range of students, all with varying needs and capabilities, I have understood that the foundation of tutoring is building rapport with students and actively listen to what they need out sessions which I have successfully been able to do (think about how much better it's been learning with a teacher who you like and who feels like they really understand you). As I've just finished A-levels, tutoring will (hopefully) feel just like peer-to-peer mentoring which I've done in the past for a year for GCSE biology.

About the lesson

My aim is to help students enjoy the subject, understand their needs and tailor my teaching approach to each student's style of learning. I put a particular focus on answering past paper questions and teach them the techniques to answer any question style. I believe that the key to learning how to tackle exam questions is through reflection and discussion of incorrect answers and I provide tools to help aid this process. I have observed that this process has helped students develop a growth mindset which has helped them become more resilient to tackling challenges. I help students learn new and effective revision strategies which match their learning style. One of my previous students was a visual and kinaesthetic learner so I suggested she revise through drawing diagrams of practicals and doing memory mind maps. I also teach, what parents have described as, "learning skills" that are outside of the syllabus e.g. time and stress management. Parents from students I teach at Explore Learning have commented that this has helped their child "improve confidence".

Sharvari has been amazing with my 14 year old daughter! The first session she had with her, my daughter came home and said she felt like Einstein! She said she explained everything so well and that it was so much easier to learn than it is at school! I would recommend Sharvari without hesitation!
