About Mark
I have been doing maths tutoring, in and out of schools, on and off for the past five years. This has been for a range of age groups from Year 6 to 11, and covered a range of topics. This has ranged from homework help, to general revision, to re-teaching the subject to students who are struggling. Those who I have tutored have often gained confidence in their abilities, and gone on to be successful when meeting new challenges in Maths.
I have also done mentoring causes, and worked as a youth worker on many occasions. This has allowed me to develop my skills working with young people, giving them guidance on their work and finding ways to use their strengths and interests to drive the sessions.

My tutoring sessions are aimed for students who are currently struggling in their maths classes, and want to work through the topics they find difficult or unsure about.
To achieve this, I would go through some brief questions on the topic, spotting issues that the young person regularly had. Then we would go through these issues, and I would try to introduce them to new and effective techniques, and re-cover the topic where required. The session would then end with us going through another set of problems, and trying to achieve higher levels of success.
The aim, of course, is not just to help them answer maths problems on this topic more easily. It is to provide them with a better understanding of the topic, so that if later maths teaching develops this topic further, they feel confident in their knowledge and what they are learning.
