About Julia

I am a high-energy, friendly, detail-oriented, creative, open-minded individual who builds connections easily. I recently graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and I am very excited to help students as a tutor. During my time at UCLA, I took courses which helped prepare me for a future career in healthcare (such as: Psychology, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, and Physiology). In Fall 2023, I will begin a full-time graduate program with Palo Alto University which will prepare me to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

About the lesson

I currently work as a Grading Assistant with Marco Learning, where I provide detailed feedback to middle- and high-school students to help them become better writers. At Marco Learning, I also help high school students prepare for Advanced Placement (AP) examinations (AP History, AP English, AP Environmental Science, and AP Statistics). Additionally, I have recent experience working as a Learning Assistant at UCLA, where I fostered an inclusive, collaborative environment through helping students succeed in their Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Mathematics courses. In the Learning Assistant program, I also was able to design materials to help students learn (such as: worksheets, study guides, and PowerPoint presentations).

I will first get to know each student individually; every individual learns differently. I will then tailor my lesson plans to match the unique learning style of each student (e.g., colorful PowerPoint presentations of concepts for visual learners, videos with a discussion of concepts for auditory learners). At UCLA, I worked as a Learning Assistant and a Teaching Intern; in these positions I was able to create lesson plans for students. I am excited to transfer the teaching skills gained from my previous positions over to this opportunity. I will create weekly lesson plans with ample opportunities for growth through both synchronous sessions and also provide asynchronous opportunities (such as: review/study guides, a weekly summary of concepts practiced, a set of additional problems to work through) to practice concepts. In my previous positions, I have tutored students from elementary school through college-age students in mathematics, sciences, and English. I am confident that my previous experiences have prepared me for this opportunity.
