About Beatriz
As a recent college graduate, the pressure of performing well in school is still very fresh in my mind. My goal as a tutor is to help students take some of that pressure away by teaching them skills and mechanisms that make their writing process easier, and more successful. In High School, my biggest dream was to go to a top university, and I worked diligently for that goal. I was never the most organized or the most clever student in the class, but I developed systems that made it easier for me to be successful and that took me farther than most people can go. Every single person is worthy of an education and I want to help my students pursue that. From my first tutoring experiences in High School, where my peers needed help writing their personal statements, to University, where some brilliant Economics students needed help articulating their ideas into essays, I've become experienced at helping people amplify their voices.
Each person has an individual writing style, from the most adept authors to the ones who are still discovering their voice. My goal as a tutor is not to replace yours with my voice but to guide you in being more confident, eloquent, and effective with how you communicate. This is a process that begins with written language but will be reflected in all aspects of an individual's communication.

Project-based approach (Middle School - College): show me a specific assignment on any subject for us to work on together and I will teach you how to organize and plan that essay, create an effective structure for your arguments, evaluate your word choice, clarity, and grammar, and teach you to hook your reader! If the student needs extra practice beyond school assignments, I'd be happy to curate themes that reflect what is being learned in school or their personal writing goals.
College Application Guidance (High School): when I was a Junior, I applied to over 30 universities, being accepted into 10 of those and receiving academic merit scholarships for 2 (Univ. of Minnesota and Univ. of Vermont). This process began during my Sophomore year and took a lot of organization, resilience, and creativity as each application demands supplemental essays beyond the personal statement. I can teach you the organizational skills and systems to stay on top of your college applications, aid in identifying target/reach/safety schools to apply to, help you prepare for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and IELTS, and assist you in translating what makes you great into your college essays!
!! I will never do an assignment for you, but I will help you access tools and systems that will become second nature to your writing process and will remain useful throughout your life! The more you practice, the easier writing becomes :)
