About Xuan
I'm Xuan. I was born and raised in North China, which gave me a fair standard Mandarin accent. This is my side hustle. I'm really into indie music. I'm down to earth and good at explaining things. Besides speaking, I can also teach you how to make some classic Chinese dishes, or tell you about the best Chinese restaurants in town:)

My classes are open to learners of all ages and levels. I teach knowledge that is useful in real life, not just outdated knowledge from textbooks. For beginner children, I teach the pronunciation of everyday vocabulary and simple conversational dialogue through flashcards or picture books. For beginner teenagers or adults, I add an introduction to linguistics to help students understand the pronunciation system of Mandarin Chinese, especially through comparison and analysis with English. I enjoy using visual aids in my teaching, such as images, video clips, and popular memes. For intermediate learners with some foundation, I further teach dialogue in social situations through role-playing, the use of tenses and sentence structure, help clients correct their tones, and provide practical vocabulary for daily life. For professionals aiming to use Chinese like a local, I advance clients through dialogue-based instruction, covering topics such as mastering politeness strategies, omissions in spoken versus written language, the difference between direct and indirect expression, vocabulary expansion, discussions on popular culture, and using slang like a local. You will encounter a wealth of traditional and popular Chinese culture, as well as food, in my classes.
