About Lawrence
I taught at a public middle school for over twenty years. I experimented with yearlong themes (typically student-chosen), multi-genre reading and writing, and many other innovative ways to make learning more interesting. My classroom and my students have been written about in The Atlantic magazine, in Six Traits Gurus blog, in NH Parenting magazine, in New Hampshire NEA's magazine for educators, and Foster's Daily Democrat, and I have been interviewed on NHPR's "All Things Considered." I am an excellent proofreader, but more interested in your success at sharing your thoughts effectively.

For 20 years, I taught writing and reading to middle schoolers. About half of that time, I used a gamified classroom. It wasn't a game, and it wasn't a computer program. I used the strategies game creators use to interest and engage their audiences, creating new intrinsic motivation to be successful. As I tutor, I can customize my delivery to the individual's needs and interests.

I am not exaggerating when I say Larry Graykin was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Larry is an extremely genuine and creative human being with a passion for real teaching. During my years in his classes, I watched him prioritize and really listen to the needs of his students, rather than get caught up in the “machine” that is the public education system. Don’t get me wrong, he prepared us for everything we needed, but he did so In his own creative way that made life a lot easier and more amusing for everyone involved. He is very considerate of the experiences kids go through in this stage of life, and always offered a safe and fun place for students to grow.
If you consider yourself to be someone who learns a little differently, enjoys to think outside the box, and wants to be pushed, please consider choosing him as your tutor/teacher.View more recommendations
