About Alexa
I am currently working towards an english and history degree at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. I achieved the highest mark in my grade 12 english class, which allowed me to offer tutoring to not only peers in my grade, but lower grades as well. Last summer, I was a private tutor to a young 9th grade boy who struggled in his summer school english course. Through these experiences, I realized my passion for helping others in an area I am both skilled and passionate about!

In order to be a great tutor, I believe in developing a strong dialogue between my student and I. It is crucial to create a comfortable environment for the student to learn, which I achieve by provoking questions and emphasizing that no question or statement is pointless. By not expecting the student to ask me questions, I ask rhetorical questions to the student to provoke deeper thinking and comprehension of the material. In addition, I believe that adapting to the student's needs is just as important as implementing my teaching methodology. I will not approach each student with the same teaching style, but rather ask for constructive criticism in order to help them in the way they need. By creating an open and honest relationship with each student, an ideal learning environment can be achieved.
