About Rebecca

I am a teacher who has worked in the UK and abroad, teaching in schools, colleges and with private students for 11 years. Class sizes have varied from 1:1 to classes of 20 students. I have worked with students who wished to study for work purposes, for college entry, GCSE and FE coursework and exams. I have taught English, ESOL, History and Politics. My students have successfully passed exams, completed coursework and increased their skill levels.

About the lesson

I am an affable and enthusiastic teacher who sees potential in everyone. I don't have a magic wand though. Learning is a two-way process; you as the student, must be as committed as me, the teacher. This ensures that you can achieve the most out of every lesson.

Experience has taught me that learning must be relevant to students, the work being covered must be understood by you and it is essential to have a teacher / student rapport. Learning needs an element of enjoyment too, and I see you the student as being key to your learning pathway; you need to feel involved, included and take ownership of it. This is your lesson after all.

I can’t describe exactly how each lesson will be structured; teaching and learning isn’t predictable. I would need to meet you, as the student, because you are an individual; what works for one person, doesn’t for another. From this, lessons can be structured to suit your needs. I would discuss with you; your expectations and requirements. I’d look at exactly what you need help with, what work you’ve covered so far (if any), gauge your level and understanding and focus on the areas you’re struggling with. This then can allow us to work on appropriate material and look at how we progress together.

As I’ve mentioned in my CV, I am student centred in my approach. As above, I believe in students taking ownership, developing their own knowledge and opinions and thinking about topics from different angles to broaden this knowledge and opinion. I find that depending on the student, discussion, reading, writing, revision, debate, exam prep, presentation, research and real-life application are methods of learning that can work. This is not exhaustive or exclusive though. As I’ve also mentioned; you the student are an individual. I’d need to meet you to know what it is we both feel could work for you.

Details

£20 per hour. This is depending on travel time; over 5 miles of travel time and I will add an additional £3, to cover extra travel costs incurred.

I won't offer webcam lessons initially, but after face to face contact with a student, this can be arranged. Webcam lessons will be charged at £17 per hour.
