About Jo
I am a qualified social worker with over 10 years' front line experience in a local authority. I have worked across a range of teams and know the challenges—and rewards—of real-life social work. As a trained Practice Educator, I have supported many students on placement and understand what is needed to meet academic and professional standards. I now work in professional development for a local authority, helping social workers and learners to grow, reflect, and thrive in their practice. I am passionate about shaping the future of social work.

What I offer: 1:1 tutoring for social work students at all levels Tailored to You – Each session is designed around your needs. Before we start, we’ll discuss your goals (e.g. preparing for an assignment, linking theory to practice, building reflective writing skills, or preparing for placement). 1:1 Online Sessions – Lessons are held online (Zoom/Teams), making it flexible and accessible wherever you are. If you prefer face-to-face and are local, that can be discussed too. Interactive Approach – We’ll combine discussion, case examples, and practical exercises so you can apply theory confidently to real practice. Resources & Feedback – I’ll provide guidance notes, reading suggestions, and constructive feedback on your work to help you improve and feel more confident. Flexible Learning – Sessions can be booked weekly, fortnightly, or as a one-off depending on your needs. Guidance on case studies, essays, and reflective writing Support with placement learning, including linking theory to practice Professional development coaching for newly qualified social workers (ASYE) Support Beyond the Lesson – You can email me short questions between sessions, so you always feel supported in your learning journey. Whether you’re preparing for an assignment, placement, or professional portfolio, I can help you develop the skills and insight you need to succeed.
