About Terry
I'm a qualified secondary school teacher (QTS, 2026), currently teaching Geography at Hartsdown Academy, Margate alongside IB Business Management and Global Politics. Before training as a teacher I spent over 20 years in senior leadership roles across the education and youth sector, working closely with schools, youth organisations and policymakers. That combination gives me a grounded, practical understanding of what actually helps students succeed, not just in exams but in building confidence and independent thinking. I'm patient, well-organised and genuinely enjoy creating a space where learners feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes.

My tutoring is calm, supportive and student-centred. I adapt my approach to each learner, taking time to understand their strengths, challenges and goals, whether that's GCSE exam preparation, essay-writing skills, or building confidence in a subject. I encourage critical thinking, curiosity and real-world connections across the social sciences, and use questioning, discussion and structured activities to help students work through complex ideas independently. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, though I can offer shorter or longer sessions depending on the learner, and I'm happy to tutor paired or small groups. As a qualified secondary teacher currently working in a school, I bring day-to-day classroom experience directly into tutoring, alongside a degree in Sociology and Politics and a long professional background in education and youth work. I support learners aged 11 to 18 across Geography, Politics, Sociology, Citizenship and Current Affairs, including GCSE and A Level, and I'm also happy to work with adult learners returning to study.

Details
Face-to-face lessons are at my home in Broadstairs. Travel to your home is available locally for a small additional fee. All teaching materials and resources are included in the hourly rate. Package rates apply to lessons booked and paid for in advance.
