About Sam
Hi! I’m a qualified Secondary Biology teacher, researcher and PhD student, and I’m passionate about helping students understand Biology rather than simply memorising it.
I have a BSc in Zoology, a Distinction in an MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences, and a PGCE in Secondary Biology at Master’s level. I also have experience teaching Biology in secondary schools. I’m currently in my second year of a PhD researching poultry vaccinology and infectious disease, so I’m actively involved in biological research alongside teaching.
I taught students aged 11–18, including GCSE and A-Level Biology, with experience of both AQA and WJEC specifications.
I understand that Biology can sometimes feel like a huge amount of information to learn, especially when you're faced with unfamiliar terminology and complex processes. My aim is to break those topics down into manageable pieces and help you understand why things happen, rather than just expecting you to remember them.
Most importantly, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident, less confused, and with a sense of achievement. Whether you're struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an exam, or aiming to push your understanding further, I'll work with you to identify what you need and tailor the lessons accordingly.
I offer both online and in-person lessons, depending on preference.

I believe the best Biology lessons are tailored to the individual student. Everyone learns differently, and you might need help with something completely different from another student.
Before each lesson, I’ll ask you what you’d like to focus on and what you’re finding difficult. We can then shape the lesson around your goals, your course, and the areas where you need the most support.
For example, you might want to:
- Understand a difficult Biology topic or concept.
- Work through exam questions and improve your exam technique.
- Prepare for GCSE or A-Level exams.
- Develop revision and study strategies.
- Explore topics in more depth beyond the school curriculum.
- Go over something you didn’t understand in class.
- Build confidence in Biology and improve your grades.
We can focus on a particular topic or upcoming assessment.
If you have a specific topic you want to work on, we can focus on that. If you’re not sure what you need, we can identify the areas you’re struggling with and work through them together.
My goal is to make Biology clear, engaging and enjoyable, while helping you become more confident and independent in your learning.

Sam has been teaching me acoustic guitar for about a year now and his ability to relate to the struggles of a beginner is really what made it for me, plus our love of rock music has allowed me to play some cool songs that I enjoy personally. Would definitely recommend!
