About Shirou

With over 10 years of tutoring experience, a PGCert in Medical Education with Distinction, and experience as a UK-qualified Medical Doctor, I teach students across a range of ages and abilities. This includes younger students in primary school looking to build confidence and strengthen their academic foundations, as well as older students preparing for important examinations and competitive university applications. Please see below for a list of the subjects and school stages I teach.
I specialize in the British Curriculum, but I am also familiar with the IB Curriculum. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves, while developing the knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their full potential.

My approach to teaching is personalized, supportive and focused on helping students genuinely understand a subject rather than simply memorizing content. I typically begin by developing a strong understanding of the core concepts through clear, structured and step-by-step explanations. We then apply this knowledge to a variety of questions and scenarios, before consolidating learning through exam-style questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This approach helps students build not only their knowledge, but also their confidence and ability to apply what they have learned independently.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I adapt my teaching style to their strengths, areas for development and preferred way of learning, ensuring that lessons are both effective and engaging. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's age and individual needs.
