About Dan
I am a qualified secondary mathematics teacher with over 10 years of combined experience teaching in schools and tutoring one-to-one. More importantly, I am someone who genuinely wants to help students feel calm, capable, and confident when learning maths.
When I was at school, I struggled with confidence myself, and I know first-hand how overwhelming a subject can feel when you don’t believe you’re “good at it.” That experience is a big part of why I became a teacher. I understand how important it is to have a friendly, patient face guiding you through a subject you find difficult, and I work hard to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions.
I hold a National Tutoring Programme qualification and have extensive experience writing curricula and planning structured lessons across multiple key stages. This allows me to tailor lessons carefully to each student while ensuring steady progress and clear understanding.
Outside of teaching, I’m a keen football and rugby fan and enjoy landscape photography, which helps me connect with students on a personal level and build positive working relationships. I believe learning works best when students feel relaxed, understood, and supported.
I teach students from KS2 to KS5, supporting a wide range of ages and abilities, whether the goal is building confidence, strengthening foundations, or preparing for exams.

My approach to tutoring focuses on building confidence as well as competence in maths. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they lack belief in themselves. I create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and really understanding the maths rather than memorising methods.
I adapt my teaching to each student’s needs, using clear explanations, step-by-step modelling, targeted practice, and regular checks for understanding. I also draw on my experience writing curricula to structure lessons logically and ensure progress over time. Lessons often include exam-style questions where appropriate, helping students apply their knowledge confidently.
Lessons are typically one hour long, which allows time for explanation, guided practice, and consolidation without overwhelming the student.
I am a qualified secondary maths teacher, with over 5 years’ experience teaching in schools and 5 years’ experience as a private tutor. I also hold a National Tutoring Programme qualification, and have experience designing schemes of work and lesson materials across multiple levels.
My lessons are suitable for students from KS2 to KS5, supporting a wide range of ages and abilities, whether students need confidence-building, curriculum support, or exam preparation.
