About Catriona
I have built up direct experience in the classroom whilst studying for my Secondary History PGCE at UEA, where I taught History to pupils aged 11-18. These tended to be classes of around 20 students, of all abilities, so I am used to encouraging students from all walks of life to achieve. I have direct experience teaching at GCSE level and A-Level.
I also have much experience in teaching younger years - not only during my PGCE, but also thanks to previous work in teaching English as a foreign language whilst living in Indonesia. This TEFL work was carried out both in larger classes, but also one to one, so I am very used to adapting lessons to suit students. It also saw me teaching online, so again, I know what kind of resources work for such a situation. I can thus provide experience in the classroom as well as online teaching, and am well versed in pedagogy and learning techniques.
More than this, however, I have a passion for teaching; for building relationships with students, and for inspiring younger generations to want to learn. My past jobs have not only focused on teaching, but due to their variety have allowed me to understand the key-need for organisation, team-work, and of course dedication. It is this dedication that I would show towards any of my online students.
In terms of what I can add as my own 'flair', I am confident that my passion for teaching shines through within my lessons, but more than this, I would also be pleased to enhance my lessons through my MA background in Museums and Heritage. I would try to make online lessons come alive by incorporating my knowledge of historical sites; planning online trips; thinking about the relevance of heritage in the classroom, and so on. I have direct experience of this technique working well with other online classes.

My lessons would be based around the idea of mutual respect and mutual learning - I wish for my students to feel engaged and active within the online classroom, so that together we can build a learning environment tailored to their needs. In this sense I cannot give a specific structure to my lessons, as I would wish to get to know students first, and then build structures around their needs. This might be a student who feels challenged by history and needs extra help, or a student who is excelling, and wants to make sure they can get to their highest potential.
I also see myself not only as an educator, but as a pastoral support system. I wish for students to feel comfortable, happy, and engaged within my online classroom, and this is a wish that I have successfully fulfilled with all of my previous classes.

I met Catriona during our PGCE course. We were training to be History Teachers together. She is the most knowledgeable and interesting person I've met and she's super passionate about her subject.
She's a fiercely hard worker and she always aims to do her absolute best. She's a very considerate and engaging teacher and will go to the maximum effort to bring History alive. She's taught all ages and has had experience in a variety of schools and teaching environments.
I would 100% recommend her as a tutor. She is the most dedicated and passionate person for the job.View more recommendations
