Antoinette is an amazing teacher. She taught me CAT in high school from grade 10 to grade 12. She's patient and kind; she explains and goes through the syllabus with the students properly. What I love the most about her teaching is the teacher and learner relationship she has with her students. She's not too strict, so that way we can always go to her and ask her to explain this and that again.

Antoinette was my CAT teacher in high school for 3 years and is now my mentor teacher as a student teacher. She teaches in a way that is both fun and engaging with learners to foster the understanding of concepts she is presenting at the moment. We would play educational games in class related to our topics, and this made it easy for us to understand. I can confidently say I and no other student failed her subject as she ensured every learner understood each and every topic. If one learner struggled, she'd find a way to support them with extra guidance and activities if necessary. To this day, when a learner has a weakness somewhere, she makes sure to attend to it as soon as it shows itself and supports the learner as needed. She isn't just an excellent teacher but a wonderful human being. Her class never felt like I was in a cage, but it felt like I was still at home just doing my school work because she also became a mother figure to me and the others as well. Two of the experiences that stand out to me are: when I had trouble studying in matric because of my noisy neighborhood, she tried to find a venue for me to study in at school, and I found a classroom I would go to every afternoon to study in; the last one is when I had trouble with speaking English, and she invited me to her class every lunchtime to chat with her in order to get used to speaking and feel more confident. Today I'm able to speak and do my work with confidence because she had that much patience with me. She doesn't approach her job as just a job but a precious opportunity to help other individuals reach their full potential in a way they don't feel rushed or shamed. I'm now in university studying to be a teacher as well, and she still helps me with my school work where I struggle. Ever since I met her in grade 10, she's been mentoring me to this day. I highly recommend her as both a teacher and a co-worker, as I believe other teachers can learn great things from her, and because I'm also using her ways of teaching, which results in either me getting great marks when having teaching assignments or having successful lessons during my teaching practice.
