About Helen

I am a fully qualified English and Media teacher with 16 years of national and international education experience. I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame, with a professional background spanning both UK and US education systems.

As a practising secondary school teacher, I bring current classroom expertise and a thorough understanding of the demands of GCSE and iGCSE English. I have extensive experience working with Pearson Edexcel, AQA and OCR specifications.

My teaching philosophy is built around high support and high standards. I believe students achieve their potential when they feel supported, understand what they need to do and are encouraged to become independent learners.

I tailor my teaching to each student's needs, learning style and goals, creating a positive environment where students can ask questions, learn from mistakes and develop confidence.

My classroom experience includes using personalised learning resources, formative assessment and targeted interventions to address gaps in understanding.

I am passionate about helping young people discover their abilities, develop a love of learning and feel proud of their progress.

About the lesson

I provide tailored English lessons designed to help you build subject knowledge, strengthen exam technique and approach your GCSE or iGCSE examinations with confidence.

Whether you need support with English Language, English Literature or essay writing, I will identify your individual strengths and areas for development, then create a focused learning plan to help you make progress.

Our lessons may include:

- Developing analytical writing and essay structure.
- Understanding assessment objectives and exam questions.
- Exploring literary texts, themes, characters and writer's methods.
- Practising exam-style questions with targeted feedback.
- Building confidence, resilience and independent learning skills.

My approach combines high expectations with personalised support. Through clear explanations, focused practice and regular checks for understanding, I help you recognise what you already know, address misconceptions and take ownership of your learning.

I also teach Media Studies, with support tailored to the relevant course and exam board.
