About Rach

你好！我是羅老師。This is Miss Law！ Teaching is my passion and I thoroughly enjoy being a teacher. I previously worked as a secondary school Chinese teacher in Hong Kong and as an editor of Chinese teaching materials at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have lived in Hong Kong and China for 25 years, and am currently based in London. I offer worldwide academic tutoring for GCSE Mandarin, HSK and HKDSE and have been teaching bilingual students online for a year. My qualifications include: · Postgraduate Diploma in Education · BA(Hons) Chinese Language and Literature · Putonghua Proficiency Test IIB I endeavour to utilise all my expertise and experience to help every student achieve their full potential. Across the 4 years I have tutored Chinese, I have been lucky to meet students from not only the UK but also the USA, Canada, Korea, Japan, Switzerland and Hong Kong. I am looking forward to working with you towards your Chinese goal!

About the lesson

I am a passionate tutor and teach through practice. I always try to adapt my lessons to the needs of each student. I like teaching in an enjoyable way through dialogues, videos, and class exercises on topics about daily life and general interests. I prioritise my students feeling comfortable in class. Therefore, I pace my lessons with students and keep the content relevant and practical to avoid boredom. At the end of each lesson, I always leave homework assignments and share the Chinese material so that you can study whenever you want. For students who are preparing for examinations, e.g. GCSE or A-levels, we would go through past-year papers and customised quizzes together. A variety of media and materials are utilised in my teaching to ensure students have the best and most fun learning experience, such as: · Films and TV Dramas · Popular Music · Games and flashcards · Homework assignments Besides teaching language, my lesson will also include cultural exchange. Our lesson will come across basic Chinese culture and history, as well as current social issues and news in Modern China. Also, I aim to respond to my students as soon as possible outside lesson time.

Perfect! Rachel has been a great Cantonese teacher for our girls (aged 11 and 14). They are not native speakers and find it quite hard to distinguish the many tones of Cantonese. Rachel has adapted her teaching approach to their pace of learning and kept them engaged. I will recommend Rachel for Cantonese lessons.
