About Tracey

Hello, my name is Tracey, and I am an experienced music educator and professional musician with over 17 years of teaching experience.

I offer structured, supportive, and individually tailored lessons designed to help students grow in confidence, technique, and musical understanding. Whether you are a beginner, a school learner needing extra support, or an adult returning to music, lessons are adapted to suit your pace, goals, and interests.

I am the recipient of a National Teaching Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching and have taught many high school students who have gone on to study Music at leading South African universities, including the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University. Many of these students are now professional musicians, artists, and music educators at high-performing schools.

Alongside teaching, I am an active performing musician with extensive experience in jazz bands and ensembles. I am the bassist for South Africa’s first all-female big band, The Lady Day Big Band, and I also perform with upcoming artist Whitney April. In addition, I direct my own corporate bands, including QuinTessential and Soul’d Out.

I am passionate about creating meaningful musical experiences for my students. Because music — and piano in particular — can sometimes feel like a solitary journey, I place strong emphasis on ensemble skills. Where appropriate, I incorporate duet, trio, and small-combo playing, as well as the use of technology, to make lessons engaging, practical, and multidimensional.

My aim is to help students enjoy music while building a strong foundation, real musical skills, and lasting confidence.

Lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to each student’s individual needs, goals, and learning style. I focus on building strong musical foundations while encouraging confidence, creativity, and enjoyment.

During lessons, students can expect:

Support with repertoire, exams, auditions, or performance preparation

I teach learners of all levels, from beginners who want a solid foundation to more advanced students looking to refine their skills and musicianship. Lessons are conducted in English, and I am also fluent in Afrikaans.

My aim is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel motivated, capable, and inspired to grow musically.

Travel costs are included in the R450 hourly rate for students living within a 15 km radius. For lessons beyond this distance, an additional travel fee may apply, depending on the location.

Online lessons are charged at R400 per hour.
