About Kaitlyn
For over a decade I have taught in K-12 public schools, every grade from kindergarten to 11th, as well as teaching courses to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of education. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Science Education, with a minor in English/ Language Art Education, a Master's degree in Special Education, focused on ESOL and Reading, and I am currently working toward my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.
My research focuses on literacy, specifically writing, and making literacy initiatives accessible for all students. I am passionate about reading and writing, and I strive to make it enjoyable for my students.
I am the mother of three special needs children and understand the importance of personalizing learning. Two of my children are in public school, while one is homeschooled. When I am not in class or spending time with my family or 11 pets, I enjoy reading a good book, hiking, and finding a new place to enjoy diverse cuisine!

With experience in teaching elementary school, middle school, high school, undergraduate students, and graduate students, I believe in personalizing learning to meet the needs of my learners. My teaching style is very socratic, and I will typically provide many questions to guide my learners to a deeper understanding of the materials needed to be successful.
Young students who need support with foundational skills typically begin with diagnostic assessments to determine where instruction should begin and how to support their individual needs as readers.
Older students can receive more personalized support tailored to their in-school instruction, or specific lessons can be implemented for students above and beyond their typical school day, or for students who are homeschooled to meet the rigor of literature and composition to prepare them for college.
My expertise in writing and editing can assist instructional goals, as well as provide proofreading and editing services for student writing at all levels. My command of English conventions and APA 7th Edition citations provide a robust depth of knowledge to support college students to increase their writing proficiency.
