About the lesson

Teaching method:
-Student-centered instruction: Tailoring lessons to individual learning styles, academic goals, interests, and areas for growth.
-Critical thinking and discussion: Using open-ended questions, collaborative dialogue, and close reading to develop analytical skills.
-Writing and research development: Helping students strengthen their writing, argumentation, research methods, and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
-Real-world applications: Connecting academic concepts to contemporary issues, published scholarship, journalism, media, and students' own experiences.
-Project-based and experiential learning: Incorporating research projects, presentations, creative work, and practical exercises to encourage active participation.
-Constructive feedback and mentorship: Providing thoughtful, actionable feedback that helps students recognize their strengths, address challenges, and build confidence.

I provide support with:
-Academic writing, reading comprehension, and essay development
-Critical thinking, argumentation, and research skills
-Social sciences, sociology, and related humanities subjects
-College application essays and preparation for university-level coursework

I also welcome students who are curious about how academic knowledge connects to publishing, media, public scholarship, and community-based research.

Typical lesson plan:
-Check-in and goal setting (5 minutes): Review previous material, address questions, and identify the goals for the session.
-Introduction to the topic (10 minutes): Introduce key concepts and connect them to students' existing knowledge, interests, and real-world examples.
-Guided instruction (15 minutes): Explore the material through clear explanations, discussion, close reading, worked examples, or demonstrations.
-Collaborative practice (15 minutes): Apply new concepts through writing exercises that involve research, critical thinking, and reflection.
-Feedback and reflection (10 minutes): Review the student's work, celebrate strengths, and identify opportunities for improvement.
-Wrap-up and next steps (5 minutes): Summarize key takeaways and establish actionable goals or independent practice for the next session.
