About Lucy
Hi! I'm Lucy. I graduated magna cum laude from The College of William and Mary with Highest Honors in History, in 2023. Since before I graduated, I've been working in public history, developing my researching, writing, and teaching skills at a range of institutions covering all of the United States' history. I currently work as Special Projects Research and Writing Assistant at the Atlanta History Center, producing and editing exhibit content and working as a writing assistant to the History Center's President and CEO. Working at the History Center, and my past five years in public history generally, has helped me to maintain skills that allow me to be incredibly useful to students - I have a lot of tips and tricks up my sleeves. I've been tutoring history and writing for the past two years, and I absolutely love it. There's nothing quite as rewarding as a formerly worried student coming to me with the test score of their dreams. I look forward to working with you!

I've worked in museums my entire career. One of the most important things they've taught me is how much of a difference a clear, concise explanation that trusts people to understand the material they're being presented with can make. My style as a tutor has been shaped by this teaching. My number one goal is to teach my students tools and techniques that help them use their knowledge and ways of thinking to master material.
A typical lesson with me involves a lot of questions. I start off asking my students what they're already seeing in our subject for the day (a paper they're struggling with, a practice DBQ, etc.) and use that conversation to shape the lesson. That way, a student who understands their argument very well but struggles to craft a thesis doesn't get the same advice as a student who writes clearly but struggles with historical analysis.
I can be most helpful to students taking AP history classes, AP United States History in particular, and students who'd like a second pair of eyes on their college history essays, or are struggling to understand class material.
