About Caitlin
I have recently completed my Master’s degree in Psychology, specialising in evolutionary and developmental approaches to behaviour and cognition, and I am due to formally graduate in December. Alongside my studies, I have gained hands-on experience conducting empirical research with animals, including carrying out behavioural experiments face-to-face with capuchin monkeys. My academic background has given me a strong understanding of areas of biology including evolution, animal behaviour, cognition, development, and research methods.
I particularly enjoy helping students understand the ideas behind what they are learning, rather than simply memorising information for an exam. Whether a student is struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an upcoming assessment, or looking to build their confidence in Biology more generally, I aim to make difficult concepts clear and manageable.
My experience in psychology and academic research has also given me a strong foundation in communication, learning, and adapting explanations to different people. I approach tutoring with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism, creating a friendly environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through things at their own pace.
For Nat 5, Higher, and GCSE Biology, I can support students with both understanding course content and developing effective exam and study techniques. My goal is to help students become more confident in their own ability to understand and apply what they have learned, rather than simply providing them with the answers.

My approach to Biology tutoring is patient, structured, and fully tailored to each student. I start by identifying how you learn best—whether that’s through discussion, visual diagrams, step-by-step explanations, active recall, or practising with real exam questions. From there, I build lessons that focus on clear explanation, guided practice, and developing a strong understanding of the key concepts, rather than simply memorising information.
Lessons typically last around an hour (but can be adjusted per your preference), giving enough time to introduce or revisit topics, work through examples together, and practise applying knowledge with support. I can help with understanding difficult concepts, identifying gaps in knowledge, developing effective revision strategies, and building confidence with exam-style questions.
I draw on my academic background in Psychology, as well as my own experience studying science at school, and I understand that different students can benefit from different approaches when standard methods don’t quite click. My lessons are designed for high-school students working at Scottish National 5 or Higher Biology level, with a focus on building both subject knowledge and the skills needed to apply it effectively in exams.

Details
I currently charge £20/h for lessons, with a £5 travel charge for in-person. The travel charge applies to those living locally, however depending on my current circumstances would be willing to discuss travelling further distances for an amended extra charge. If these prices are not suitable for you then please still get in touch so we can work something out.
