About Barbara
I am a professor and published author with over 10 years of teaching experience. I have coached hundreds of students in academic writing from short answer questions to doctoral dissertations. I meet students of all ages where they are and help them overcome challenges they encounter in their academic writing, no matter how big or how small. As a professor, I take a structured yet personalized approach to tutoring, tailoring each session to the student’s academic level, writing goals, and specific challenges. My teaching method focuses on clarity, organization, and academic rigor, ensuring that students not only improve their writing, but also develop essential skills for future coursework and research. I provide constructive feedback, step-by-step guidance for complex tasks, detailed instruction on APA formatting (other styles available, too!), and editing and proofreading. Why me? As a graduate school professor, I have extensive experience guiding high school through graduate school students through advanced academic writing, including theses and dissertations. I help students develop skills that will serve them not just in their current coursework, but throughout their academic and professional careers. A typical lesson will look like this: 1. Assessment and Goal Setting - We start by reviewing the assignment, your progress, and the student's goal for the session. 2. Instruction and Discussion: This is where we work on achieving the student's goal and I provide targeted explanations. 3. Hands-On Practice: We work through the student's paper, applying revisions and refining arguments. 4. Final Review and Next Steps: We end by summarizing the key takeaways and developing an action plan for the student's next steps. Who are the lessons for? 1.
