I place a heavy emphasis information communication and assignment instruction. Clarity of expectation is important for students and the instructor and avoids most of the complications that arise in online forums. If possible, I would create preparatory assignments, for practice and refinement. This helps students analyze their own work and typically increases scores.
To address issues specific to individual students, provide detailed audio/video feedback on major assignments, including preparatory ones, to enhance scores in a way that address that student’s weaknesses. I also take questions or consultations with students to address questions in real time. I utilize similar methods at both institutions I work with and have seen good results. The balance between general expectations and individual student difficulties can usually be dealt with in this manner.
