About Laura
I am a professional copywriter with a first class degree in English Literature and Italian from the University of Edinburgh. I have been tutoring English for 5 years, and have taught more than 20 students aged 10-18. Through discussion, exercises and encouragement, I have helped many of these students achieve better GCSE and A Level results than predicted. I have worked with students of all abilities, whether improving the grade from a predicted fail to a pass or helping them achieve top marks. I aim to give students of all ages an enthusiasm and grounded understanding of the subject.

Together, we will work on the books studied in the school curriculum, using exercises and discussion to identify themes and deconstruct characters. My lessons are largely conversation based, to develop ideas and confidence, and I set short written exercises for the students to do outside the class. When the student seems comfortable with ideas, themes and characters, we then work on essay structure, discussing how they might introduce the argument and lay out their thinking. We also work on close analysis in the lessons to help the student identify literary techniques.
