About Jasmine

I have a 1st class BA (hons) degree in popular music from the world renowned Leeds Jazz Conservatoire.

I have been teaching privately for over 5 years and am currently working alongside that as a professional vocalist in the industry working with such artists as Ellie Goulding, stormzy, Sienna Spiro, Nectar Woode, DC3, Kenyon Dixon, Jacob banks, Unknown T, Sophie Faith and Black Sherif to name a few. I am regularly performing around the UK and london music scene. I have performed in venues such as Bush Hall, KOKO, Metropolis studios, BBC Maida Vale, Ronnie Scott's and the BBC XTRA1 Live Lounge.

I have several years of experience with teaching performance to a range of ages and abilities. Being an independent artist with close to one million streams on my debut release, I believe I am qualified to offer upcoming artists a good understanding of how to build a career in music.

Some artists I find myself regularly inspired by is Jazmine Sullivan, Noname, Corrine Bailey Rae, SZA, Tori Kelly, YEBBA and India Arie. What’s yours?

I personalise each and every session I teach to suit my client's individual needs.

I offer all my new students a 20 min FREE goal setting session where we discuss your wishes and obstacles and find out if we’re a good fit for one another. From here on we create a plan of direction for future lessons.

Together we will cover and explore the fundamentals of singing including breath management, posture, pitch and tone. I encourage all my students to bring along some of their favourite repertoire for us to explore in the lessons. However I also can provide a wide range of repertoire which covers all sorts of music/artists to suit you. I choose repertoire for my students based on what I feel is most suitable for their immediate and long-term development.

As singers we have an innate talent for imitation. I believe that this should be an important part of the evolving process and I always encourage my students to develop a clear idea of what their influences are in regards to genres and singers that they love. I aim for my lessons to have a good balance between focused practice and creative work, where together we explore how to optimise creativity and imagination in our approach as creatives.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed a passion for singing as early as I can remember. I was a baby when my mother used to take me to her gospel choir and I would just soak up the sounds. I fell in love with soul music from a young child and developed a passion for musical theatre around 6. As a teen this passion progressed into songwriting and by the time I was 22 I had released my debut single with nearly a million streams and am now currently working as an artist and backing singer in the industry. I’m so proud of all that I have achieved and my love for music has never wavered.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I can listen to Gospel, RnB/Soul on a loop and never get tired- it’s just so full of life and emotion and pain there is always something to learn and be inspired by. Jazmine Sullivan is my number one inspiration and I know I will be listening to her for the rest of my life.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think the most riveting course I could give a student is the journey of self discovery. Of finding one’s own tone. We are always imitating others and wanting to sound like the ones we are inspired by but sometimes the most difficult and exciting journey is finding out who we are and who we want to be in this world and this world of music. I love finding this out with my students and taking the journey together.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think it’s hard to answer what the most difficult instrument is to learn because I have such respect for all instruments and players and each one has its own rewards and struggles. Of course I personally have found singing the most rewarding as the instrument is apart of our body, it’s the most primal and beautiful way to get in touch with ourselves- through sound.
  • What are your keys to success?

I truly believe the keys to success are being kind to yourself, being open to fail, forgetting about comparison, having an open mind and being willing hard work. I hope to encourage all of these within my lessons.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Three musicians I would dream to meet would be Jazmine Sullivan, Kirk Franklin and Yebba.

Kirk Franklin is a master of performance and an incredible person who brings joy all over the world, I think there’s a lot to learn from him.

Yebba to pick her brain about how she came about to have a tone like hers and what her journey has been with her voice to get to where she is now.

Jazmine Sullivan because she’s a shining example of the perfect vocalist, artist and songwriter. Honest, raw, ingenious and beyond talented.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

A short anecdote I can offer relating to music would be when I was in my final year at university and living in Leeds I had my first headline show at the renowned ‘Wardrobe’ in Leeds and sold the place out. The whole room was filled with people I loved and they loved me. We danced and cried and had the most wonderful time together and I will never underestimate the power of live music after that night.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I believe the little touches that make me a super prof in music is that I love to share. I love to share the knowledge I have and watch someone achieve their dream of being the vocalist they want to be. I love getting to experience their joy with them. I’m kind and patient and encouraging and I think as well as being knowledgeable, I like to treat all my students as individuals. I like to give each of them the unique experience they deserve. I just want them to leave every lesson with a smile on their face feeling better about themselves and their voice than they did when they first arrived for the lesson.
