About Carla

I’m Carla, a professional violist, educator and performer who loves making music feel accessible, creative and enjoyable.

My musical journey began as a young learner and has developed into a career spanning performance, education and music therapy. I have performed with orchestras and ensembles across the UK and have also worked on solo, contemporary and collaborative musical projects.

I graduated with First-Class Honours in Music and Psychology before completing my MA in Music Therapy at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Alongside my performance work, I have taught and worked musically with children, young people and adults in a variety of educational settings.

I’m naturally patient and encouraging, and I understand that confidence can be just as important as technical ability when learning an instrument. I aim to create lessons where students can ask questions, experiment, make mistakes and genuinely enjoy improving.

Whether you’re a parent looking for a supportive teacher, an adult beginning an instrument for the first time, or a student wanting to take your playing further, I bring a professional yet approachable attitude to every lesson.

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed, encouraging and shaped around what each student wants to achieve. I offer violin and viola tuition for beginners through to intermediate players, as well as music theory, musicianship and preparation for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations.

Lessons combine practical playing with the fundamentals needed to become a confident musician. Depending on your goals, we may work on technique, posture, tone, rhythm, scales, sight-reading, aural skills and repertoire, while also exploring improvisation and different musical styles.

I enjoy bringing classical training into a wider musical context, so students can explore repertoire from classical music through to pop, rock, R&B and soul. I can also help students choose suitable pieces and develop their musicality beyond simply learning the notes.

I teach children, teenagers and adults, including students with SEN and different learning needs. Whether you are completely new to an instrument, returning after a break or working towards an exam, lessons will be adapted to your ability, interests and pace.
