About Emily
I am a violist and teacher, and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where I completed a Master’s degree and was awarded the DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. My studies have been shaped by masterclasses with leading violists including Nobuko Imai, Thomas Reibl, Lawrence Power, and Garth Knox. As a member of the Fitzroy String Quartet, I have performed internationally at major venues and festivals, and we were honoured to win both the Beethoven Prize at the International Beethoven String Quartet Competition and the Royal Overseas League Competition. Our work has also included collaborations with the University of the Free State in South Africa, alongside fellowships at the Royal Academy of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire, and artist schemes with the Belcea Quartet Charitable Trust and Le Dimore del Quartetto. Alongside chamber music, I perform regularly with Manchester Camerata and have worked with the BBC Philharmonic, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. I am also a member of Ensemble Mirage, a flexible ensemble committed to diverse and engaging programming. Teaching is a central part of my musical life. I hold positions at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Wycombe Abbey, North London Collegiate School, and Channing School, and run a busy private studio. I particularly enjoy creating performance opportunities for my students and value the shared learning process that teaching brings.
⸻
I teach because it brings me great joy. I love working with each student individually and helping them develop their own musical path.
I believe that with the right guidance and encouragement, every student can make meaningful progress and overcome challenges. Equally, it is deeply rewarding to work with advanced players as they develop independence, artistry and confidence in their own musical decisions.

My lessons are structured, focused and fully tailored to each student’s goals, whether preparing for ABRSM exams, scholarship auditions or high-level ensemble entry. I combine strong technical training with musical understanding, helping students develop both accuracy and expressive confidence. I place emphasis on efficient practice habits, secure technique and detailed musical awareness, so progress is consistent and measurable. Lessons are supportive but high-standard, and I adapt my approach carefully for each age and level—from early beginners through to advanced conservatoire-bound students.
My aim is always to build confident, independent musicians who understand what they are playing, not just how to play it.

Emily has been instrumental in teaching violin to my two daughters for a few years now. She has a calm, caring methodical approach and easily adapts her teaching style to the needs and level of each student. She clearly cares about her students and encourages them in a way that helps them reach their potential. I would totally recommend Emily for both children and adults whatever their age or level.
Daniel has been with Emily for almost three years. We are very happy and would recommend Emily warmly. In his own words 'Extremely friendly, motivating me week by week in a structured and supportive yet flexible progression. She has fostered confidence, meaning and joy in playing the violin'.
Emily has been teaching my daughter for over five years, and in that time they’ve built a wonderful relationship based on trust, encouragement, and consistency. Emily cares about her students, and this is reflected in the way she supports my daughter’s learning.
Emily is patient, and each lesson is tailored to suit my daughter’s pace. She always takes the time to ensure full understanding before moving forward, which has made a real difference in my daughter’s progress and confidence.
Emily also taught my son Music Theory in which he achieved a Distinction.
Emily is an exceptional tutor who truly cares about her students’ success. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a supportive, patient, and highly skilled teacher.
