About Cate
I have had a violin in my hands for most of my life! I have studied with teachers and professors from the Russian, American, German, Franco-Belgian schools of violin playing (including Jascha Brodsky and Igor Ozim). My conservatory studies were at the New School of Music Philadelphia, University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg, Trinity College of Music London. I have performed extensively as a chamber musician and with orchestras in Germany, South Africa, Philadelphia, and Boston. I am a qualified teacher for the Suzuki Association of the Americas (level 1-10); European Suzuki Association (violin levels 1-5, viola levels 1-3). I have taught violin for prominent music schools in Philadelphia, Marburg Germany, Boston (New England Conservatory), Tanzania, and Glasgow (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Early Years)

I teach using a clear progression of step-by-step skill development while maintaining a sense of music play. Our work together allows for the development of my student's unique voice through the instrument; stimulates and stretches their brain abilities and brain-body coordination; all leading to competence and confident self-expression! Weekly home practice projects are presented and clearly noted in lessons. We also have goals (concert performances, personal achievements to name a few), and ongoing motivational activities as encouragements. In addition to our 1:1 weekly lessons, we also have bi-weekly ensemble classes to learn our young musician community skills. Parents are included in early study to support and help with home practice follow-through.
