About Gareth

I'm a busy professional musician working in London with a genuine passion for teaching. I have many years of teaching experience both privately and in schools. I was fortunate to gain scholarships to study at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and then at the Royal College of Music in London before taking up a full-time violin position with the BBC Symphony Orchestra performing all over the world including the first and last night of the Proms at the Albert Hall. Having now left the BBC, I perform regularly with many of London's wonderful orchestras as well as playing on many TV & Film soundtracks with the Chamber Orchestra of London such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and with artists such as Bastille, Biffy Clyro, Paul McCartney & Liam Gallagher.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are catered towards the individual student depending on their needs/requirements from beginner through ABRSM exams to advanced, not forgetting those who just want to learn! Lessons will always be accompanied by good humour and a strong emphasis on having fun. My teaching also draws on my extensive experiences gained through working closely with educational and outreach programmes/departments in individual London boroughs & schools as well through my close work with the education departments of most London orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Perfect! Gareth was friendly and open in his approach with a good knowledge and understanding of technique to help me with my playing. He was interested in my goals and keen on tailoring lessons to suit them. He had a good idea of what exercises and strategies I could try to address problems I've been having with my technique. All in all a great experience and a lovely chap!

We covered different aspects of Sarah-Jane's playing including the freeing up of her left hand (including thumb) & right arm. Really enjoyable lesson. She makes a lovely sound and her enthusiasm makes it that much easier to get the messages across.
