About Kelsey

My background is in pop, jazz, and folk. I’m also a songwriter and perform my own music. I started singing while working as a performer in the theatre world.

I’ve since been a session singer for film and television soundtracks, including celebrated composer Jocelyn Pook's soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick's last film 'Eyes wide shut'.

My first job in pop music was touring aa a backing singer with pop band The The. I have featured on a number of albums by The High Llamas.

Alongside all of this, I've been teaching singing lessons for thirty years and very much enjoy seeing singers progress.
The human voice is extraordinary in its capacity to move and inspire us, and the singing of songs is a special form of communication which I feel privileged to work with.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is fun, physical and freeing.
I aim to help you sing with freedom and ease, improve your pitch and tone, and grow the confidence to move into your unique voice.

Lessons are at my studio in Penzance, Cornwall or online. They can be from 30 mins to 1 hour long and take place weekly or fortnightly.
Whatever stage you are at with your singing, I would love to work with you! From age 9 - 90 singing lessons can enhance your life.
I have a lot of experience of working with unconfident singers and absolute beginners. I also work with advanced singers and professionals.

As a natural voice practitioner, I start the lesson with a physical and vocal warm-up to unlock areas of tension in the body. Over time, you’ll develop the muscles which naturally want to support your voice and let go of those which cause strain.

Each lesson is tailor-made for your individual needs as every singer is different. After an initial introductory process we’ll build together a programme to open up your full singing potential.

Throughout the process you can choose the songs you would like to sing. However I can also suggest. I can help you create a repertoire you love, and if you wish to - find a way to take it out into the world.

My experience equips me to help with all kinds of Popular music; Jazz, Folk, World music, Musical Theatre or your own songs.
Young students have gone on to study singing/songwriting/musical theatre and I have a great track record of giving singers of all ages the confidence to begin to perform or sing out in choirs etc.

Other areas of expertise include offering songwriting support and mentoring.
