About Asti
I have over 6 years experience working in science communication, as an Education Officer at the Bunurong Environment Centre (BEC) in Inverloch, and as a Science Presenter with Mad About Science (MAS) in Boronia. Both of these roles focus primarily on collaborative unsupervised communication of science-based information at a level that children from Years 1-6 can understand. This experience has made me highly adept at clearly communicating scientific concepts at a range of different levels of complexity, translating often-complicated subjects into ‘layman’s terms’ that can be more easily understood. My positions at the BEC and MAS also involve working in a team with multiple key stakeholders in delivering high quality science-based education and engaging audience members to leave them with a renewed scientific appreciation of nature, whilst also catering to any special needs of audience members (eg. Autism Spectrum Disorders, auditory impairment etc.) as well as general inattentiveness (as children often have).

I like to take my cues from the kids, and LOVE answering all their science questions as best I can. What I love more is when I get a question I can't answer, because this pushes me to be constantly updating and building on my own science knowledge, as well as presenting an opportunity to teach kids about the importance of scientific literacy and doing one’s own research to answer questions.
