About Chris
I started piano at the age of 5 and saxophone at 9, taking up flute and clarinet a little later on. I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire with a BMus (hons), 1st class in 2012, and was awarded the Yamaha Prize for outstanding jazz musicians in the same year. I also won the BBC big band/Mike Gibbs competition for Jazz orchestra composing in 2010, and was a finalist in the Worshipful company of musicians Young Jazz Musician of the year competition in 2015. More recently I attained an MMus degree with distinction from Trinity College of Music. As a professional musician, I have recorded and toured with a variety of artists in the UK jazz and international music scenes, as well as performing with my own projects throughout the UK. I regularly work as a session musician for recordings, TV and also write/arrange music commercially.
As a teacher, I'm experienced at taking pupils through the ABRSM grade system as well as helping them prepare for auditions and performances. I hold a full enhanced DBS certificate, registered on the live update service.

I specialise in Jazz and improvisation, but am equally at home teaching classical and popular/commercial styles. Lessons are tailored to the individual and your goals - I like to keep things fun and productive. I greatly enjoy helping pupils pursue their musical interests, helping them develop a personal voice on their instrument and build good instrumental technique. My pupils' ages range from children to adults, and all levels from beginner to professional. Lesson lengths can be flexible, and typically are either 30, 45 or 60 mins.

Perfect! Chris is a fabulous tutor. Calm, patient, with attention to detail. He is very supportive, gave good advice and really helped my child improve. Would definitely recommend.
Perfect! Excellent. Learnt a lot on one lesson. Great foundation. Easy to get on with.
Perfect! An excellent lesson, I really feel I will progress well with Chris
Perfect! Friendly welcoming atmosphere. very confident and understanding of my requirements and intentions without, as yet, trying to steer me down any particular path of musicality. In my first free lesson went over basics and he gave me some very useful observations on how to improve my tone and breathing. I think we are going to get along fine and I'm looking forward to my next lesson with Chris
Perfect! Chris has an immense amount of knowledge of jazz and a great teacher. I've been gigging for 10 years and he has really shown me how to improve as saxophonist.

Chris is a great teacher who has not only taught, inspired and encouraged my son to improve as a player but he’s really engaged him in general musicianship and a love of music - especially jazz. He’s a fantastic musician and I would highly recommend him to both beginners and experienced students.
I'm having piano lessons with Chris for almost 2 years now and I really enjoy it.
Initially, I knew nothing about playing piano or music theory.
I knew though I don't wanna be a party pianist who knows just 2 melodies and that's it. And I didn't want to study classical tunes for years because there is not enough fun.
Luckily, Chris is very flexible in the areas we cover in our lessons and the themes we discuss. So we built up an entertaining, interesting and educative course of blues and jazz stuff, including improvisation and theory.
5 stars, highly recommend
