Lesson Structure
1. Warm-up & Technique Development (15-20 mins)
Finger exercises, scales, arpeggios, and etudes to build strength, dexterity, and control.
Focus on touch, articulation, and dynamic control for expressive playing.
2. Repertoire & Interpretation (30-50 mins)
Working on pieces suited to the student’s level, focusing on phrasing, tone, and interpretation.
Exploring different musical styles, from Baroque to Romantic and contemporary.
Score analysis – understanding musical structure and composer intent.
3. Sight-Reading & Aural Skills (10-20 mins)
Sight-reading practice to develop quick note recognition and rhythm accuracy.
Ear-training exercises: recognising intervals, chords, and melodies to enhance musicality.
4. Performance & Expression (10-15 mins)
Simulated mini-performances to build confidence and stage presence.
Encouraging storytelling through music – connecting emotionally with pieces.
5. Theory & Musical Understanding (10-15 mins)
Learning key theory concepts relevant to the pieces being studied.
Exam and competition preparation if applicable.
