About Alexandria

Originally from Berkshire, I moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music and have graduated with a Bachelors and Masters degree with distinction. I’m currently a member of the opera studio at the RCM where I perform 2-3 operas a year. To sing is my passion and I’m incredibly lucky to be a professional performer. I’ve been teaching privately for the past 5 years and believe that every person can and should sing if they love it and it makes them happy. I can use my wealth of experience in singing professionally to help you unlock your full potential.

The lesson will be completely tailored to the Pupil’s wants and needs. With over 10 years in performing and singing experience and over 5 years in 1-1 vocal teaching, I have much experience in many different fields of singing. Whether it’s belting or opera or whistle-toning, I will curate for the Pupil a tool-kit in order to achieve their singing goals during lessons that are fun, engaging and insightful.

Lesson structure:
Lessons usually begin with a warm-up whilst curating a warm-up routine for the student. This is typically followed by discussing musicianship and vocal technique and then performing technical exercises depending on what needs to be focused on. Then using repertoire that the student offers or the teacher provides, these exercises are implemented through the material. If in-person, I am adept at the piano and use it to accompany students whilst they sing. The lesson will end with a review and goal-setting for in between lessons.

Lesson location:
I teach at home or at the students home or an agreed public place. At home I do not have a piano, so would encourage for students who have a piano to host the lesson at their home.

Safe-guarding:
If in-person, the parent or carer must be present during the lessons.

Repertoire:
I am able to provide repertoire tailored to the students wants and needs. I will encourage all students explore classical repertoire during training, but it is not required if students wish to focus primarily on musical theatre or modern genres.

Classical languages:
Whilst learning to sing classically, there is opportunity to sing in different languages. I have experience singing in Italian, French, German, Spanish and English and can teach how to read these languages in a way that is suitable for a singer to help them sound convincing. I also teach how to read phonetics. We can talk through the preparation process of translating these works and how to accommodate singing them.

Vocal therapy:
If a pupil is in need of vocal therapy they may be experiencing these symptoms:
Vocal fatigue, strain, tension, pitching problems, pressure imbalance,
feeling of being stuck, dynamic problems
I have much experience working with vocal therapists and naturally work in a way that prioritises the ease and efficiency of singing so that the pupil will get to feeling their best. We’d work in a way to educate about the vocal mechanism and the connection to the breath and to the brain and then release tension and re-balance the voice.

Music Exams:
I have much experience with the ABRSM and Trinity Exam boards and with the consent of the Pupil or the pupil’s parent or carer, I am able to enter the student into an exam and to organise and structure lessons around pursuing these exams.

I thank-you for your time in reading and look forward to getting started!
