About Taylor

Hey everyone, I'm King Taylor (aka The King of Bones), a professional music producer and DJ in New York. I have a Bachelor's degree in music from one of the world's top music conservatories, the Schulich School of Music in Montreal, QC and a separate degree in education as well from McGill University. Putting my education degree to use, I have worked at and directed a summer camp for 6 years while in university and after graduation. Since graduating in 2021 I have spent a majority of my time teaching music to students of all ages.

When it comes to music, I have a significant background in all things music theory related. My music degree has also made me very proficient in mixing and mastering as well as the production aspects. I value the use of music as a form of expression and personality. I believe that music is one of the greatest expressions of the human mind and can convey so much emotion and intent with just sound. The skills that you learn making music are transferrable to nearly any aspect of life, and can help individuals become more in tune with themselves. The more you know yourself, the more you can put yourself into your music and truly use it as a form of expression.

I had been producing music on an amateur level for a long time, but after graduating and teaching for a few years I have been able to release some of my own music. In terms of my official releases, I've released 3 EPs and several singles which are available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and pretty much all major music streaming platforms. I will be releasing my first full length album in 2024 through the record label that I own: The Sound Den. The Sound Den is the world's first LGBTQ+ specific electronic music label.

About the lesson

From the very basics of how to use a DAW to advanced production techniques, lessons will be specified to fit your specific needs. (I use Ableton, but nearly all skills are transferable to any DAW)
Lesson plans will be developed in advance for each session and will build off the previous session. In each lesson there will be a warm-up activity to get into the mindset of the day, there will be a section of learning new material, and a section to put into practice what you have learned with assistance. Each lesson will have a written summary that you will have access to that you can reference while not in session. Additional resources will be provided at the end of each session to continue the education and growth in that particular area.
Practice assignments will be assigned based on the amount of time that you are able to dedicate to production. These will range from creating loops, full tracks, drum patterns, chord progressions, melodies, etc.
Your strengths as a LEARNER, not just as a producer, will be used to advance your weaknesses. You as an individual will be prioritized and used to your advantage.

Details

I create a distinct lesson plan for every session, specifically dedicated to each individual. Each student will get a written summary of each lesson and access to additional resources. I create my own curriculum for each student and create a series of practice routine and ideas. I spend nearly the same amount of time planning as I do teaching because it is important to me that my students are able to get individualized teaching. I add $8 onto the lesson rate in order to accommodate the time I spend planning.
