About Keeling

A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where I obtained a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership; a full scholarship recipient to the Federal Republic of Germany, where I obtained an advanced professional diploma in the field of Electrical Control Systems, as a technical Teacher. Besides, I obtained two Bachelor of Science Degrees, one in Secondary Education and the other in Education/Minor Mathematics. I am a highly motivated and committed educator with more than 30 years of professional work experience, 22 years in education at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, inclusive of experience as Campus Director, Principal Lecturer II, and International Teacher of Physics; besides, more than nine years in industry, as technician and supervisor. During my 22 years as an educator, I have taught students, at • Key Stage 2 (7-11yrs.), all general requirements subjects • Key Stage 3 (11-14yrs.), Mathematics, Business Basics, and Technical Drawing • Key Stages 3 (11-14yrs.) through 5 (16-18 yrs.), Physics • Key Stage 4 (14-16yrs.) through 5 (16-18 yrs.), Electrical and Electronic Technology. In addition to, Electrical Power Engineering, Basic Construction Skills Principles, and Fundamental Concept of Mathematics at the tertiary level. I am a reflective practitioner who has been privileged to have served in various leadership/teaching capacities and have endeavored to build and sustain leadership capacity in teachers and students alike. On a note of teaching philosophy: Fact that students vary in abilities and background, I adapt my teaching style to students’ learning styles through the application of (a) in-class demonstrations; constantly supporting verbal instruction with good, clear visual images, (b) open laboratory time after school, etcetera. I believe in the educability of all and ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become successful adults; furthermore, I demonstrate a willingness to continually examine my own assumptions, beliefs, and practices. I have a proven track record of providing exemplary levels of service to a broad range of leading institutions and organizations—such as a) Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics, Kazakhstan, b) McGrath High School, c) Brown’s Town Community College, Jamaica W.I.; etc—in both urban and suburban settings which has enabled me to develop not only specific teaching and management skills, but also valuable and transferable skill set in a fast-paced industry and as a result, really prepared me to function effectively in today’s schools. Among my other professional qualifications and training are, • Diploma in Practical Bookkeeping and Accounts from Cambridge Tutorial College, Jersey Britain. • Certificate in Electrical Installation Work Part One (U.L.C.I. Second Year). • Certificate in Refrigeration Systems (Modules 1, 2&3) from the Bundesfachschule Kaelte-Klima-Technik, Maintal Germany. • Certificate in Renewable Sources of Energy from Artefact, Glucksburg Germany. • Certificate in German as Foreign Language (Levels 1, 2&3) from Goethe Institut, Mannheim Germany. An educator indeed; nonetheless, my interests and involvement spans a wide range of activities outside of the teaching profession. For example, I have a strong interest in all aspects of fostering and maintaining strong community links, working with religious-, civic-, youth groups and parents/guardians to encourage a holistic process of care and support for the indigent, children and elderly via community outreach programs; namely, “Meals on Wheels”—provide meals for the indigent, “Home Visitation”—for shut-ins, “Home for the homeless”—assist the homeless to acquire homes through ‘Food for the Poor’, etcetera. My distinctive background equips me with a significant advantage to function in a multi-disciplinary/multicultural setting. The skills that I have developed are highly applicable to a setting where solid interpersonal skills and exceptional communication skills are an advantage. I offer the unique combination of teamwork skills that enhance organizational cohesiveness, strategic planning skills that ensure successful programs and people-oriented guidance that yields productivity and high morale. Living and working together with people from different countries and cultures is an experience that I embrace and strive always to use my training and leadership abilities to make positive contributions, bring new ideas, enthusiasm and humor to benefit students, colleagues and the wider community.

As it relates to strengths these lie in my ability to, • plan and deliver lessons in English, across all grade levels. • develop and conduct expert review of assessment tools for students taking Physics and Electricity/Electronic at the AP, GCSE-/AS/A-Level, IB Diploma, and other such programs. • plan and deliver, practical and theoretical, lessons that cater to diversity in learning needs (gifted, talented, and slow learners). • establish rapport and motivate students to overcome their personal obstacles. • prepare students for international entrance examinations—SAT Physics. • plan and deliver continuing professional development seminars for teachers in general pedagogy and subject-specific; etc. On a note of teaching philosophy: Fact that students vary in abilities and background, I adapt my teaching style to students’ learning styles through the application of, • in-class demonstrations; constantly supporting verbal instruction with good, clear visual images; • open laboratory time after school, etcetera.
