About Riccardo

I’m Riccardo Chiaberta, a drummer and multi-instrumentalist based in North London. I teach both in person and online, sharing my experience as an active musician in the industry.

I’ve performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz Festival, and London Jazz Festival, and at iconic venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Auditorium Parco Della Musica, and The Jazz Cafe.

I'm part of the jazz/electronic duo Moonfish, alongside performing with rising star Maria Chiara Argirò, including on her album Forest City and Closer (released by the LA-based label Innovative Leisure – BADBADNOTGOOD), touring this music across Europe, the USA, and Asia.

I've also been a member of Dugong for over a decade. The Guardian called the band a "one-off European jazz/post-rock quartet", and BBC Radio 6 Music said that "Dugong is a unique proposition on the European jazz scene".

I’ve released two albums under my own name: A Bird Told Me (as pianist and composer), and Lux (as drummer and composer). All of these were released on Honolulu Records, a label I co-founded.

I graduated with highest honours in Jazz (Bachelor’s degree) from the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Como, and earned a Master’s degree in Jazz, also with high honours, from the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Milan.

About the lesson

I teach jazz, rock, funk, electronic and world music drumming.

I tailor lessons to each student, helping them reach their individual goals. Topics we can cover include:

- Technique
- Drum rudiments
- Grooves/fills
- Independence/coordination
- Improvisation/soloing
- Repertoire
- Improve your time feeling
- Practice methods and tips
- Listening suggestions
- Sight-reading
- Music theory

I can also help you prepare for graded exams with Rockschool, Trinity College, ABRSM, and other examining bodies.

Since I also play piano, we can explore additional areas to deepen your understanding of song forms, harmony, and communication with other musicians, giving you a practical, “real-life” musical experience.

My studio is fully equipped with a high-quality drum kit, an acoustic piano, and a great sound system.
