About Iris
I am an experienced Chess tutor with 7 years of teaching students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players. Over the years, I have successfully guided over 200 students, helping them improve their skills, confidence, and love for the game. My teaching philosophy focuses on building strong foundations in openings, tactics, strategy, and endgame techniques while encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
I believe learning Chess should be both structured and enjoyable. I use real-game examples, interactive exercises, and personalized instruction to make lessons engaging and effective. My approach emphasizes patience, discipline, and integrity, helping students understand not just how to play, but why certain moves work. I also encourage collaboration, discussion, and reflection, so learners can develop strategic thinking and adaptability.

My teaching approach focuses on developing both skill and strategic thinking in Chess while keeping lessons engaging and practical. I emphasize integrity and accountability, helping students understand the importance of making thoughtful decisions and learning from mistakes. Lessons are structured around core Chess principles, including openings, middle-game tactics, endgame strategies, and positional understanding.
I also integrate related subjects such as problem-solving, pattern recognition, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. Real-life examples and case studies from classic and modern games help students see how strategies are applied in different scenarios. I encourage creativity in play, allowing students to explore their own ideas and unconventional moves while understanding the risks and rewards.
Collaboration is an important part of my methodology. I work closely with students to analyze games together, discuss alternative strategies, and review mistakes constructively. This helps them develop confidence, deeper understanding, and the ability to think multiple moves ahead. I also introduce related board games and strategy exercises, such as Risk, Backgammon, Checkers, and Settlers of Catan, to expand strategic thinking and adaptability.
My lessons are personalized to match each student’s level, from beginners learning the rules to advanced learners and aspiring professionals refining their tactics.
