About MacKenzie

The theatre is what I grew up dreaming about doing, and I love to share that enthusiasm with others. I've been lucky to wake up and do it as my job for the last year after doing back to back shows, both totally different from each other. I don't ever want to limit myself or anyone else artistically, so if we embark on lessons together my biggest priority will always be to challenge you to try something new, and find how much fun it is to be different!

About the lesson

I believe there is no one way to sing. There is no one way to act. Your technique should be a toolbox you can rely on to have all the methods you need for the variety of songs, roles and scripts you'll encounter. Variety is the spice of life - why limit yourself by only learning one way to sing, act or perform?

For singing, I like to start with the very foundations of voice training - learning how the voice works. We start with some basic anatomy and learn how sound is produced, and how we can manipulate that in order to create different ones.

For acting, I take a similar approach with a text. We will learn what are some of the most helpful questions to ask yourself and the script about your character and the story, and move from there. I draw from many different practitioners (Stanislavsky, Meisner, John Barton, etc.) in order to find the right blend that works for each individual.

My lessons are typically 45 mins - 1 hour long and aimed at ages 10+. I have been teaching acting and musical theatre for a combined two years, and I have recently been working in the industry after graduating from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama!
