About Carlma
I am a first year university students with a few months of English teaching experience. I have taught English to non native speakers, my high school cleaning staff, as part of an after school activity for three months. The staff are now able to better understand with the English speaking students on campus and can attempt to communicate with them using basic sentences. I have also tutored my brother in year 6 (5th grade) English grammar as a summer job. He is now among the top students in his class for story writing and basic literary analysis. I was also among the top 5 students in my International Baccalaureate higher level English Literature class with a score of 6/7.

I am very patient with my students. I approach each class by outlining what key information we will be covering and going step by step through every topic. I also give examples to allow the students a better understanding of a topic, sometimes trying to engage them in the lesson by incorporating visual examples such as videos or images. When it comes to Literature I like to guide my students to the right answer rather than immediately giving it to them. To do so I focus on outlining the literary techniques used in a story or a piece of work and question what impact it has on the reader. This is a method that was widely used by my teachers in both high school and middle school, proving highly efficient in helping the students to have a better grasp of the subject.
