My personal approach to private tutoring is centred on building confidence, clarity, and long-term understanding rather than short-term memorisation.
I start by identifying each learner’s current level, strengths, and gaps through informal assessment and discussion, which allows me to tailor every session to their specific needs.
I believe that learning is most effective when concepts are broken down into simple, logical steps, so I focus on clear explanations and modelling thinking processes before moving into guided practice.
I use questioning throughout sessions to encourage active thinking rather than passive learning, helping pupils understand not just the “what,” but the “why” behind each concept.
Each lesson is structured but flexible. I set clear learning objectives at the start, revisit prior knowledge where needed, and finish with targeted practice to consolidate understanding. I regularly check for understanding during the session and adjust my teaching approach in real time if something is not landing.
