About Rita
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Child and Adolescent Development and bring over fifteen years' experience working with young people in and outside of classroom settings. I started tutoring in University while working for an after-school centre serving at-risk primary school students in need of academic support, and continued through career changes into private home care and as an informal education specialist. I have completed significant coursework in pedagogy and learning theories, which have helped me build a base of techniques and tools to help each unique student improve their reading, writing, and maths skills.
During the 2020-2021 school year, I opened and operated a pod-based learning centre, which offered academic support to students in my community enrolled in virtual learning. I worked closely with teachers, parents, and students to help meet students' needs for learning support so that they were ready to return to classroom learning in 2022.

I provide individualised support for students at the primary and secondary level, identifying learning goals with the student, their family and/or school, and tailoring lessons to meet these goals.
I use feedback from the student's family and/or school to select materials that target phonics, reading comprehension, and writing as the student most needs. I am known for engaging with a child's interests and learning style to build a strong rapport and a safe, successful learning environment!
For secondary students, I am also available to provide more advanced critique and proofreading, and supplemental practice for essays and other long-form writing.
If a family prefers, I am also available to be booked to support students directly with homework or make-up work assigned by their school, or for a combination of schoolwork and supplemental lessons.
Lessons are 55 minutes. For students in year 3 or below, contact me to discuss options for shorter lesson times.
I have experience working with students on the autism spectrum and with developmental and learning disabilities as well as English language learners.
